|
Title:
Weight of Water, The
Released: 2000
Genre: Thriller
Runtime: 113 min
Country: USA / France
/ Canada
Language: English
Tagline:
Hell hath no fury...
Plot
Summary: A newspaper photographer, Jean,
researches the lurid and sensational axe murder of two
women in 1873 as an editorial tie-in with a brutal modern
double murder. She discovers a cache of papers that
appear to give an account of the murders by an eyewitness.
The plot weaves between the narrative of the eyewitness
and Jean's private struggle with jealousies and suspicions
as her marriage teeters.
Comments:
Two
couples get on a yacht to (ostensibly) investigate an
early American murder. Actually, one of the women is
doing the investigation, the others are there to fill
needed cypher roles. The characters are so asinine,
the dialogue so pretentious, the situations so absurd
that I nearly just turned it off. The other part of
this movie follows the actual murder, told in a series
of flashbacks, broken up by the absurdity that is the
modern setting. That movie is actually interesting,
if somewhat predictable. The characters have real motivations,
and are so much more rounded than their contemporaries,
that it kept my interest through the excrutiating crap
in between.
Scene
Description:
Elizabeth Hurley only partially covering her breasts as
she stands up while topless and attempts to catch some
papers that are blowing about. We then get a nice shot
of her breasts as she lays back down.

Double
Whammy (2001)
|
Title:
Double Whammy
Released: 2001
Genre: Comedy /
Drama
Runtime: 100 min
Country: USA
Language: English
Plot
Summary: Ray Pluto has horrid memories of
watching his wife and child die in a traffic accident.
He's also a cop who's the laughingstock of New York
City because his back went out while trying to stop
a mass murderer - who was then shot by a child. For
his back, he gets help from a chiropractor. Meanwhile,
a teenager hires thugs to kill her father, who's the
super in Ray's apartment building. In the same building,
two young men are writing a movie script. Can Ray get
past his grief to solve the assault on the super and
also return the affections of the chiropractor?
Comments:
Story
of a cop (Dennis Leary) fumbling in his career and then
gets involved with solving a crime in his own apartment
complex. For some reason Leary and Elizabeth Hurley
have a romantic involvement in the movie. It is sort
of a Dromedy. In my mind...mostly a comedy but with
a dramatic plot. Dennis Leary and Elizabeth Hurley are
the main stars...and Leary is above average and Hurley
is simply average. It is unfortunate Steve Buscemi didn't
have more of a role. But the story is pretty interesting
and it is funny in parts (with the exception of the
Leary/Hurley relationship sub-plot). By this virtue
it is better than 95% of other movies that are out there
and thus worth seeing but not getting your hopes up
too much. Leary and Buscemi should do more films. Hurley
should simply be a model....or perhaps just start playing
Goldie Hawn like roles (i.e. purposefully ditsy).

Kill
Cruise (1990)
|
Title:
Kill Cruise
... aka Skipper, Der
Released: 1990
Genre: Adventure
/ Drama / Thriller
Runtime: 98 min
Country: Germany
Plot
Summary: A washed-out German sailor, in a
drunken state, agrees to take two British women from
Gibraltar to the West Indies in his sail boat. Early
into the voyage, they realise that it's not going to
be plain sailing.
Comments:
Kill
Cruise is one of those hard to find movies that any
Liz Hurley fan must see. An early film in Liz's career,
that can only mean one thing. Nudity. Not only do you
get to see Liz in the buff, you get to watch two love
scenes with her at her best. Patsy Kensit co stars with
Liz in this very sexy and dark story. Check it out if
you can find a copy. The DVD just recently came out
nationwide.

Sharpe's
Enemy (1994)
|
Title:
Sharpe's Enemy
Released: 1994
Genre: Action /
War
Country: UK
Language: English
Plot
Summary: Portugal 1813. A band of deserters,
including Sharpe's old enemy, Obadiah Hakeswill, have
captured two women, one the wife of a high-ranking English
officer, and are holding them hostage for ransom. Sharpe
is given the 60th Rifles and a Rocket troop, as well
as his majority to rescue the women. But while Sharpe
may be able to deal with his old enemy, he has yet to
face a newer threat, the French Major Duclos.
Comments:
Oncer
again, Sharpe's Enemy allows our hero Richard Sharpe,
along with his Rifles in support, to save the day. A
somewhat contrived plot does not help, but some excellent
acting saves the day. Not, one might add, from a certain
Liz Hurley! The tragic events towards the end add a
poignancy to the Sharpe series that had not really been
present before, although this is superbly counter-balanced
by the humour of Sharpe's promotion.

Dogs and Englishmen (1995)
|
Title:
Mad Dogs and Englishmen
Released: 1995
Genre: Thriller
/ Drama / Mystery / Romance
Runtime: 97 min
Country: UK
Language: English
Tagline:
A beautiful woman with a dark secret. A young man searching
for the truth. A dangerous game that could kill them
both.
Plot
Summary: Antonia Dyer is young and rich -
an aristocatic beauty. But in private she is also a
drug addict. Motorcycle messenger Mike Stone becomes
involved with her when he delivers a package from Tony
Vernon-Smith an aristocratic thug who can 'supply' anything
- at a price. Ofcourse money is the one thing Antonia
isn't short of. Stringer is a ruthless Drug Squad officer
who becomes unhinged when he discovers that his daughter
Sandy is also involved with Vernon-Smith's Chelsea drugs
scene. A complex story unfolds.
Comments:
Mad
Dogs starts off well-A police raid of a local drug store,
but after the first half an hour, it becomes incredibly
boring. It focuses on the romance between a hard ass
American biker and a lonely druggy. No-one really deserves
any real recognition for this, but Jock Ackland is probably
better than the rest. Elizabeth Hurley is patchy. In
some scenes she does well, but in others you wonder
why she is such a big success.

she believes the personification of her imagination
is the cause. Against this backdrop, Claire has Byron's
baby then is estranged from him and barred from her
daughter. Byron and Percy continue their friendship,
the one self-centered and decadent, the other wildly
idealistic. The Shelleys take up residence near Pisa.
Comments:
After
watching this film, I thought to myself that it was
an interesting film, and there were individual scenes
which were strong.

Godard, Robert Altman, Bruce Beresford, and Nicolas
Roeg. Each short uses an aria as soundtrack/sound (Vivaldi,
Bach, Wagner), and is an interpretation of the particular

Comments:
Erotic
tension, great arias. I'm an opera buff, and operas
are full of sex, blood and death. I am a classical music
lover, and I liked this film.
Scene
Description:
Elizabeth Hurley in her very first nude scene as a guy
removes her robe and she spins around, giving us a nice
look at her breasts. We then see her bare butt as she
